Green Voltis raises EUR 13.5m Series A from Lochpine Capital for AI battery trading

Stockholm-based Green Voltis has raised EUR 13.5 million in a Series A with Lochpine Capital as the sole investor. The company uses AI to operate and trade battery storage across European power markets as a route-to-market optimiser.

Green Voltis said it has more than 1.2 GWh under contract and in operation, market access in place or underway in 10 European countries, and a pipeline of about 120 MW of powered land in the Nordics for a Power-to-Compute business aimed at grid-friendly data centres.

What the product does

According to the company, Chronos is an energy management system designed in Sweden, certified against grid codes and able to support grid-forming operation. Aether AI is a trading agent built on time-series foundation models that forecasts prices and stacks revenue across day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets rather than locking a battery into one market at a time.

Green Voltis also covers engineering steps from hot commissioning to ancillary-service prequalification, and offers commercial structures such as revenue sharing, tolling and revenue floors intended to help owners secure project finance. It said assets it manages have consistently outperformed the Clean Horizon index of battery storage revenues.

Why the round, and why Lochpine

Proceeds will expand R&D on Aether and Chronos, grow the business in key European markets, and build Power-to-Compute. CEO and co-founder Martin Kievit said flexibility now sets the pace of the energy transition and that the intelligence that operates a battery can also manage a data centre's energy. Blake Niu, partner and head of private equity at Lochpine Capital, said grid connection and power trading are among the scarcest capabilities in Europe's energy transition.

Power-to-Compute angle

In main European data-centre hubs, Green Voltis said a grid connection can take seven to ten years, while regulators from Ireland to Finland are starting to require new data centres to provide flexibility. The company aims to connect grid capacity on one side and compute on the other, running sites as flexible assets so compute can get power sooner.

Team and industrial context

The company said its team draws people from Ericsson, T-Mobile, Rolls-Royce, Brady and Varberg Energi, mixing telecoms, cloud and AI experience with power systems and trading. That blend mirrors a wider European pattern: flexibility software is becoming as important as the containers of cells themselves.

Europe is adding storage quickly while day-ahead, intraday and balancing prices move on 15-minute intervals. Owners that cannot stack markets cleanly leave money on the table and struggle to finance projects. Green Voltis positions Aether and Chronos as the operating system between the grid code and the trader's book.

Lochpine's sole cheque also signals cross-border capital from an energy-transition platform that cites China's industrial base in new energy. European climate founders increasingly raise from specialist pools outside classic Sand Hill Road syndicates.

Independent European coverage, including EU-Startups, has also carried the round as a Stockholm energy-AI expansion story.

Why it matters for European founders and investors

Battery storage in Europe is scaling faster than many control and trading stacks can keep up. An AI-native RTM layer with bankable commercial structures sits next to large physical finance deals such as Return's EUR 835m German portfolio financing. A sole-investor Series A also concentrates governance: founders get a long-term energy-transition backer, but lose the syndication diversity that multi-investor rounds provide.

What happens next

Green Voltis will deepen Aether and Chronos, expand market access beyond the current 10-country footprint in progress, and develop the Nordic powered-land pipeline with compute partners.
