Mistral unveils Large 4, saying Europe can still compete at the AI frontier
The French company's first major model since May will be publicly available on 27 October.
French AI company Mistral has unveiled Mistral Large 4, nicknamed "Le Chonk", its first major model release in about five months, and says it outperforms many rival open-weight models. CEO Arthur Mensch, speaking at a launch event in Abu Dhabi, said the model beats Chinese models in some areas, including cyber, without naming which models or benchmarks.
The model is due to be publicly available on 27 October. Before then, cybersecurity experts and government authorities get access to a version with fewer safety restrictions to test its capabilities.
